Project Overview

Transverse Park located in Mt. Oliver is a 15 acre community park; the largest in the borough. The current park includes a parking area, community gardens, old tennis courts, dek hockey rink, open field space, concession stand, playground, picnic shelter, basketball court, and horseshoe pits.

The 2017 Mt. Oliver Borough comprehensive plan identified the community's desire to maximize the use of borough parks and recommended completing a master plan for Transverse Park to guide future improvements.

The master plan for the park will develop ideas for improvements based on input from the borough, a study committee, and the community.  This plan will give the borough a guide to implement improvements and seek funding for park projects.

The Process

1

WHERE ARE WE NOW?

Inventory & Assessment

Through inventory and assessment of Mt. Oliver’s existing parks, green spaces, and recreational opportunities, the project team will be able to determine how Transverse Park can be used to enhance the system already in place and meet the community's current needs and future goals.

2

WHERE DO WE WANT TO BE?

Community Engagement

The project team will develop a vision for the park based on input gathered at community events, surveys, committee meetings, and key person interviews. The project team will design meaningful and diverse strategies to collect information, analyze it, and utilize it to fashion a plan the Borough can implement over the next decade or more.

3

HOW DO WE GET THERE?

Implementation Strategies

The project team will create a park master plan that will bring together the goals and strategies developed during community engagement into a concise report document. This will include recommendations, project prioritization, cost estimates, funding sources and strategies, and a holistic view of the true cost of maintenance for Transverse Park.
